| Bush Foundation Teacher Effectiveness Initiative |
The Bush Foundation has embarked on a $40 million, 10-year initiative, the largest single commitment in its history, in partnership with 14 higher-education institutions in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota to radically reform the way teachers are recruited, prepared, placed and supported.
The Foundation and its partners will place at least 25,000 new, highly effective teachers in schools in the three states over the next 10 years.

Research shows that having an effective teacher makes a bigger difference than any other in-school variable and that effective teachers can close the achievement gap.
The Foundation and its higher-education partners are fortunate to have the input of a talented field of national experts on education throughout the planning phase and will continue to rely on them for guidance during the next 10 years.
This initiative is a critical part of reaching the Foundation’s goal over the next 10 years of increasing by 50 percent the number of students in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, from pre-kindergarten through college who are on track to earn a degree after high school, and eliminating disparities among diverse student groups.
The resources of the press conference announcing this initiative, including video, are available on our press conference resources page.
