Amiotte: latest exhibition is "my swan song"

After a two year tour, the final exhibition of Arthur Amiotte is on display in Rapid City. "Transformation and Continuity of Lakota Culture: The Collages of Arthur Amiotte, 1988-2014" will be on display at the Dahl Arts through January 23.

Amiotte, who is a recipient of both a 1980 Bush Fellowship and a Bush Enduring Vision award, tells the Rapid City Journal that the exhibition is the only comprehensive show of his collages and will be his “swan song.”

"This is the first and last time that people interested in my art can see the entire span of my career in collages," Amiotte said. "I'm quite elderly now, and do not produce many works, so I do imagine it will be my swan song."

Jodi Gillette’s impact

Jodi Gillette, Bush Fellow 2002, stepped down from her Senior Policy Advisor for Native American Affairs position in the White House in May, but the momentum of her work lives on. The Bismarck Tribune chronicled her path to the White House and the significant work she did for Native American affairs.

In 2015, Gillette was featured in a different kind of story, on the cover of our bMagazine. The in-depth interview chronicles her work but also highlights 4 moments that stand out to her during her journey from Standing Rock to the White House.

Gillette currently works as the policy adviser for a Washington, D.C.-based law firm, that represents Native American tribes for litigation, lobbying and economic development.

Beaulieu named Native American 40 Under 40

The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (NCAIED) named Native Nation Rebuilder Justin Beaulieu one of their 2015 “Native American 40 under 40.” Beaulieu, a citizen of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, was nominated by members of his community because of his leadership, initiative and dedication, along with the contributions he has made in his community.

Beaulieu coordinated the effort to draw up a new constitution for Red Lake detailed in the 2014 issue of bMagazine.

Beaulieu and the other award winners will be honored at the 40th Annual Indian Progress in Business Awards Gala on November 18.
