The Courage to Lead

We believe that the best way to help communities tackle their toughest problems is by fostering courageous leadership, wherever it is found. We recognize that those with authority may not practice courageous leadership, and those who practice courageous leadership may not have authority.

We provide such leaders with opportunities to build their own leadership capacity, gain insight through community engagement and use tools for innovation, all aimed at supporting them in being catalysts for change and in advancing solutions to tough problems.

Two Foundation programs are currently focused on fostering courageous individual leadership - the Bush Fellowship Program and the Native Nations Rebuilders Program

While each program has a separate application process and focuses on developing leadership skills in different ways, the two share the philosophy that anyone from any segment of the community can exercise courageous leadership and inspire people and institutions to walk together through conflict and arrive at sustainable solutions to their problems.
