Mandan, ND — To increase civic and social engagement of the American Indian community in order to build community leaders who can collectively address the pervasive, negative socio-economic disparities of the American Indian population in Bismarck-Mandan

The Big Idea

Native youth, families and veterans who live in the Bismarck-Mandan area want to be more connected to the broader community. Sacred Pipe Resource Center hopes to organize monthly community engagement meetings for individuals and local agencies. The meetings are intended to promote leadership development and cross-cultural understanding. A better equipped and connected community could lead to more equitable civic engagement.

I think persistence is a huge key. We were told that our plans would not come to fruition but we kept with it and kept looking for ways to make it work and it ultimately happened. Just because something doesn't necessarily work right now, it might just mean the time is not right.
