Grant for
Hope Community
Hope Community is based in the racially diverse, low- and moderate-income Phillips neighborhood of south Minneapolis. This community-based organization is recognized for working closely with the people of Phillips to identify the challenges in their community and drive their own solutions.
Twenty years ago, Hope began working with community members to build a strong neighborhood. The organization quickly recognized that long-term, sustainable change meant growing a base of people from the community who would learn together, lead problem-solving efforts and, most importantly, stay involved. Hope’s groundbreaking model of continuous engagement has inspired dozens of other organizations.
Hope creates spaces for individuals and families to build and share power. The organization reaches more than 1,000 people each year through leadership opportunities for youth and adults, systems change work, learning gardens and community circles, literacy and wealth creation programs, as well as 200 affordable apartments. A network of 200 community leaders, at least 75% of them people of color, work on dozens of community-based partnerships and projects.
