Lessons from the process of creating the Native Governance Center

We documented and shared our learnings from the development of the Native Governance Center.

In 2009, the Bush Foundation set a Goal for the Decade to support the self-determination of the 23 Native Nations in our region.

We realized that investing in efforts to strengthen and improve tribal governance structures, an approach referred to as nation building, could prove an effective strategy to support self-determination in the Native nations we serve.

This report documents the development of the Native Governance Center, beginning with the Bush Foundation’s work supporting the self-determination of Native Nations, through the emergence of a fully independent, Native-led 501(c)(3) organization in 2015.
