Bismarck, ND — Dakota Legacy, a sponsored organization of North Dakota Council on the Arts, seeks to work in partnership with community, arts, and education organizations to “repatriate, contextualize, and make more accessible traditional Lakota songs recorded on the Standing Rock reservation” by ethnomusicologist Frances Densmore between 1911-1914. Many of these songs are currently stored at the Smithsonian and the Library of Congress and remain inaccessible to Indigenous communities.
