Minneapolis, MN — After the last years of recession and insecurity, people want alternatives to “business as usual,” and an economic model that works for everyone rather than the fortunate few. Cooperatives have a 175-year track record of doing just that, and are now viewing themselves as a source of hope and renewal. During my fellowship I will catalyze my community’s capacity to build a stronger, people-centered local economy through the power of cooperative enterprise. My work will focus on engaging others in learning about the co-op model, connecting to the wealth of traditional and emerging resources about co-op start-ups, and creatively exploring with others how to foster cooperative economic development in our area.
