What We're Learning

We are a learning organization and work to be smarter and more effective every year. We never lose sight of the reason we exist: to do the most possible good with the resources left to the community by Archibald G. Bush. Here we share the lessons we learn through our efforts, as well as the insights of our grantees and Fellows.

Bush Fellow Learning Log

"Because this narrow view of leadership has expanded, my goals are not defined by how I view other’s leadership. This is especially important as a quiet introvert because many of the leadership skills that are apparent within those I respect as leaders, are extrovert-type skills."

Bush Fellow Learning Log

"I have learned about a different kind of courage. It is the courage to look deep within myself to understand and bring forth my intuitive leadership abilities and to be true to those, even when others would like me to do otherwise."

Engaging in open conversations with the tribal leadership is one of the most important aspects in operating an organization such as TNRG. By being transparent, the tribal leadership ensures trust in our purpose and organization and endorses our mission...

Bush Fellow Learning Log
"Carving out the space to do this work has been a challenge, but I’ve found that by focusing on self-care and wellness, the much needed internal conversation goes more smoothly. For me this looks like working towards alignment of the mind, body and spirit. "

We think that the most useful element of the community innovation process that has been most helpful is the “collaborative” component. Establishing working relationships in our collaborative has enabled us to develop more rigorous and engaged work, and importantly, a much more varied set of outcomes

Bush Fellow Learning Log
"Being able to reflect back on our own stories in order to understand where we are going in life has been one of the things I enjoyed the most about this Fellowship because it is only when we understand what we’ve been through can we understand we are going."
